Census Page Image (1)
This census page of June 21 appears to show
Magdalena Good
living with the
Jacob Horning
family in German Twp., which is now American Twp. (2), of
Allen Co., OH.
This, however, requires some explanation and a little imagination.
The Jacob Horning family and Magdalena appear to be on lines 10-18 of
this census page with the census taker using initials instead of
names. Most of the census information is reasonable with two major exceptions.
- Anna's age is recorded as 25 instead of 33 or 34.
- The gender of M. Good is recorded as male, but the age is reasonable
and the place of birth is correct for Magdalena.
Jacob and Anna's first child Katherine died in 1851, which explains
her absence on the census. The genders of the rest of the children
are correct, and their ages are within one year of their age on their
birthday in 1860.
