Amsterdam Mennonite Library

Amsterdam Archive

University of Amsterdam Library

The Mennonite Reading Room of the University of Amsterdam Library houses a special collection (1,2) of original, historical materials of the United Mennonite Congregation of Amsterdam (3), who provided important aid to Anabaptists of Central Europe seeking new homes in colonial Pennsylvania and other parts of the world. The archive preserves records about many of these relocations and other documents of the early church. (4) Jacob Gijsbert de Hoop Scheffer provides (in Dutch) a catalog of these archives. (5)

This collection commonly is known among Mennonite historians as the "Amsterdam Archive."
