Will Book B-1-69 (1)

The Original Will, 1753. This is the document Peter wrote in his own hand in German. His signature matches the one on his "loyalty oath" to the King of England when he arrived in Philadelphia in 1727. (3 p3)

Signatures to Proof of Will, 1754 Dec 23. This has original signatures of three of Peter's sons, Jacob, Christian, and Peter, and his son-in-law Hans Musselman. Some of the other signatures remain open to interpretaton.

English Translation, ca. 1754 by Abraham Myer. This undated translation of the will is on file at the courthouse along with the original German. Amos Hoover esitmates it was done about the time the will was proved.

Will Book Y-2-182 (2)

Y-2-182 Translation This is essentially a copy of the Myer translation, but with more modern English and less punctuation!

Translations by Amos B. Hoover

The Myer and the Hoover translations differ in two significant ways.

1. The children of Peter and his second wife were Nancy and Barbara rather than Mary and Barbara as stated in the 1754 Myer translation.

2. Peter names Nancy's children as his heirs rather than Nancy, suggesting that she has died before he wrote his will in 1753.

Beyond these two differences, the general sense of both translations is the same, although they vary considerably in detail.
