When a settler arrived in the Fairfield Co. wilderness soon after
1800, "he was forced to protect his live stock and many times his own
life against bears, wolves, and panthers, while wild turkeys, deer,
squirrels and raccoons sought to destroy his growing crops." (40 p6)

interpretation
of the 1820 US census (33) that says Joseph and Magdalena were living in Rush Creek Twp. of

?? Where are they? This 1824 deed says Joseph and Magdalena are of
Rockingham Co., Virginia. However, beginning with
John S. in 1811, current sources say all of their children are born in
Ohio. Did they really return briefly to Virginia between the birth of
Samuel in May 1824 and Anna in October 1826? -- dg 2008 Sep 13
1830: Except for what appears to be a minor recording error, the
1830 US census
shows
Joseph and Magdalena living in Rush Creek Twp. of
Fairfield Co., OH
with all 13 of their children. (34)
1833 May 30: During the administration of Andrew
Jackson, Joseph receives a patent for 80.70 acres of US government land on the W/2 SW/4
Sec. 4-15-17 in
