Jane Evans Best has written histories on several of the families of early
Lancaster Co., PA, including the Goods. To coordinate these histories, she uses a single set of
family codes throughout her articles.
For example, the Joseph Good (GC229) mentioned on this page refers to
Joseph the 9th son of the 2nd son of the 2nd son of the Good family
with code "GC." This is the family headed by one particular Peter
Good, which appears in her 1989 article about the Good families of
early Lancaster Co. Identifiers, such as GC229, are used
throughout these web pages to show the connections to people in the Best articles.
Uncertainty is a part of historical research. Within Best's articles, if
the identifier of a person begins with a "?", that means she is not certain
about the identify of the parents of that person. (2 p11)
