Leave it to a bunch of old Kansas farmers to preserve a map of the Catlin Community Cemetery on a wooden breadboard. The idea probably worked just fine at the time, but the attempt to refinish it did not. The map is now mostly unreadable.

These photos (1) were taken in 2001 in the hope that digital enhancement would bring out some of the map, but I'm not enough of a Photoshop wizard to recover much. You can see the "W" (for west) on the left, and the "E" on the right in most of them, but not much else. Frame 6 seems to be the best. Fortunately, we now have a much more readable directory that was made by reading the grave markers in the cemetery. (2)
