1946 Mar - Eckert, Mauchly create Electronic Computer Company summer - Moore School Lectures - Mauchly is lecturing on sorting and collating Oct - Contract to build EDVAC type machine for US Census Bureau 1947 spring - Cenusu Bureau machine officially names UNIVAC (UNIVersal Automatic Computer) - intended to use magnetic tape storage - need to build tape handling equipment. Oct - contract to build BINAC for Northrup - small airborne computer End - incorporate as Eckert-Mauchly Computer Corp (EMCC) to obtain investment capital 1948 Aug - American Totalisator buys 40% of EMCC 1949 Nov - BINAC shipped to Northrup.
- American Totalisator pulls out financially 1950 early - Eckert and Mauchly approach IBM for financing ??- Remington Rand approaches EMCC (with Gen. Leslie R. Groves in charge of R&D)
